CENSUS RETURNS
PETONE SHOWS 'AN INCREASE. The Census Enumerator has completed a, count of Petone's population as furnished by the census papers. The result shows a. substantial . increase, though the borough has contributed very largely to the Expeditionary Forces during the past two years. -,Tho census returns give Petone a population of 7112 (3462 males and 3650 females), as compared with 6640 five years ago —an increase of 472. • There were 1560 occupied dwellings, 15 unoccupied; and three in course of construction when the census was taken. Makara County. In 1911 the population of Makara County was 3632. Since then the county has lost the town of Johnsonville, which has been constituted a Town Board District. As Johnsonville was estimated to have a population, of 929 (five years ago), that num'her must be_ deducted from the total of that time, which would make the population 2703. The census returns for the county this year give a population of 2977 , (1647 males and 1330 females)—a net'ihcrease of 274 in five years. There were 417 dwellings,&27 unoccupied, and two in course of construction.
