THE RIVALS
The following letter, according to the "British Australasian," was reoently received by an Anzac at Weymouth from a soldier in a Scotch regiment:— "Annsmuir Camp, Collessie, Saturday. "To Mr. M. . _.: _. "You will be surprised when you" get this letter but you "see" like yourself I have a fancy for a certain Miss —-.. Perhaps you think you are going to get her for your wife but you are not i£, I can help it. I got your address from a friend of her's who writes to you so made up my mind to let you know that you have a rival in myself who knows that Lizzie is a good girl and will make a fine little wife, so I don't, intend to be cut out hy an Australian or Canadian either for that matter. If my six feel two don't have a chance against your sft. Bin. Well I am not a Scotchman for nothing. lam leaving for France soon so I mean to per-, suade Lizzie to become engaged to me before I leave but she is very unwilling to make an appointment with me.' Any time 1 meet her of coarse she is very loyal to you but nevertheless I will have a good try at it if I meet her alone before I leave so once I have her she will have too muoh honour to draw back out of her bargain.' No dought I have set myaelf a difficult t ask but all's fair in love and war ■ and I mean to win her for my own' and then I'will have a laugh at you for losing her, my how. I will glory in. cutting you out.—Your Rival in Love,' "Wni. C. .
"P.S.—I wont forget to tell Lizzie how 1' wrote to you after I am sure of her my she will be wild at me but I will just glory in her anger at it I will never tell her where I got your address." ■.-•'.
