GAGGING THE GERMAN REICHSTAG
CHAMBER SUDDENLY DISMISSED. Australian-New Zealand Oablo Association. (Rec. November 6, 10.40 p.m.) Amsterdam; November 6. Despite the expectation of the members of the Reichstag that the session would last ; until Thursday, it was suddenly dismissed on Saturdayas the result of an autocratic decision. Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg (the German Chancellor) offered to make a speech on Wednesday if no debate followed. All parties, except the Centre, refused to promise not to speak. It .is believed that the Government is determined to muzzle the Reichstag, fearing the result of a discussion of the measures to be taken for the mass enrolment of men and women for war purposes, including the complete military control of Labour men, trained and untrained, up to the age of forty-seven. Those who have been rejected and exempted will be summoned for re-examination.
