The weather was showery for the first day of the Victorian facing Club's spring meeting, and the going -was very bad. The race for the Derby Stakes had to be delayed a few minutes, owing to rain. There was a bis crowd present. The results were as' follow:— MAIDEN PLATE, of 100 sovs.; weiglit-for-age. One mile.—Kilchonoman, |1; Captain Standish, 2; Star Comedian, 3. Also started: Brightwater, Cheloma, Burnley, Grand Allianco, Mount Stuart, Hotfoot, Payette, and Perier. The winner led throughout, and won by two lengths and a half. Time, lniin. 18] sec. for-two-year-olds, s.p.w. Eivo furlongs. Mr. L. L. Welt's br. c. Pah King, by Mountain King—Poi Danco 1 Erastus 2 Eraiuac 3 All started. Erastus was finst away, then Reunion, Thrice, Pah lung; and Erauzac had tho advantage. Wintering the course from Thrice and /Remnon, Pali King drew away, and won easily by a length. Time, lmin, 7jsec. HATHAM HANDICAP, of 500 sovs. One mile and a half.—Dame Quickly, 7st. 31b., 1; Daius, Gst. 71b., 2; Torbane, Bst. 91b„ 3. There wero 15 starters. Mafioso and Daius mado the running, and live furlongs from home led by four lengths. Daius led into the straight from Mafioso,
Lady Blacksaad, and Orilla. Tho winner camo with a vory fast run, and won by a length. Time, 2min. 40Jsoc, DERBY, of MOO sovs., for three-year-olds, s.p.w. One mile and a half. Mr. D. A. Seatou's Wolaroi, by Kcnilwortli—Widden Lass 1 Mohi King * 2 Eastcourt '3 Kilbov was fourth. After a furlong Mclii King led Hitachi. Wolaroi, Stngeland, Eastcourt, and. at the mile iUciu King was two lengths from Wolaroi, followed bv Stageland, Hitachi, Kilboy, and Eastcourt. Stageland got into second place six furlongs from home, thou followed Kilboy, Tirana, ami Wolaroi. At tho turn lulboy was second, then, came Wolaroi, Stageland, Eastcourt, and Ettefred, and Melii King led into the Vtvaiglit from Kilboy, Ettefred, and Wolaroi, the latter passed easily to tho front, and won by one length and a half.
