Duo Melbourne November 9. STRATHAVON DUE TO-MORROW. Prom New York, via Panama, tho steamer Strathavon arrived in Auckland on Thursday morning. She left New York on September 22, and passed through tho canal on October 2. Tlio weather throughout was fair, and no event of interest marked her passage from the American port. No ships wero passed -while en route to tho Dominion. Captain Kydd is in charge of the vessel, which, after putting out 300 tons of cargo at Auckland> will reach Wellington to-morrow. Sho lias 1500 tons of cargo to discharge here, and after replenishing her bunkers will proceed on to Melbourne and Sydney on Wednesday next. It will bo remembered that tho vessel is one of those recently purchased for tho Australian Government, and on arrival at Australia will have her name changed from Strathavon to Australford.
MAITAI DUE TO-DAY. Radio advice was received, from tho R.M.S. Maitai, en route from San Francisco, stating that the vessel would arrivo in port at 11 o'clock this morning. The vessel berths at No. 6 Queen's Wharf. KAIAPOI FROM NEWCASTLE. Shortly after 6 o'clock last evening the Union Company's Kaiupoi arrived in port and berthed at No. 2 Glasgow Wharf, to put out 550 tons of coal and a quantity of timber. Tho vessel left Ncwcastlo on Saturday last, and experienced light and variablo winds ofad smooth seas on tho trip across. Captain Whyborn is now in charge, and has associated with him:— Chief officer, Mr. J. lioid; second, Mr. M. L. Singleton; third, Mr. J. D. Bell; chief engineer, Mr. S. Carman; second, Mr. Graham; third, Mr. Smith. PORT PHILIP FROM NEW YORK. Tho 0. and D. cargo carrier Port Philip arrived in Auckland from New York on Wednesday after a lino weather voyage throughout. Captain J. Auld, who is in charge, has associated with him:—Chief officer, Mr. J. Flctchcr; second officer, Mr. G. T. C. Harris; third officer, Mr. F. A. Ayro; chief engineer, Mr. T. A. Loinster; second engineer, Mr. Drean; third engineer, Mr. J. Muir; fourth engineer, Mr. S. Pring; chief steward, Mr. Thomas. The Port Philip left Auckland yesterday morning at 6 o'clock, and is duo hero on Sunday morning. Slio will probably sail for Lyttelton on TueEday evening. ' KAITOA TO ItESUME RUNNING!. Messrs. Banuatyno and Co. advise that Nelson hopes to dispatch the Kaitoa on Thursday nest, and she will arrive here on Friday, and go straight on the slip. Tho vessel will then go back on her usual running on Monday, November 13. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Advice has been received by cablegram from Scotland that Mr. Gerald Sharpe has passed Jus examination for a first mate's foreign-going certificate. Mr. Hharpe, who was educated at Oamaru, and who is only 22 years or age, served his apprenticeship on tho Amokura. He is at present ou a, big ocean tramp, which is carrying munitions for the Admiralty. Captain Davies, of tho Wellington Hur- , hour Board staff, is spending a .holiday in the south. Mr. C. Barltrop, chief engineer of the Waimea, has corno ashore on holiday leavo, and has been temporarily replaced by Mr. Owen, of the Nikau. Mr. R. B. Henderson, assistant purser of tho Tarawera, who went into tho hospital at Auckland on the Tarawera's last trip, has recovered sufficiently to rejoin tho vessel, this trip. Mr. Craig, chief engineer of the Kahika, has rejoined his vessel after being on holiday leave. Tho Ngaliere, which arrived from Greymouth last evening, goes on the slip for overhaul here, and will sail for Greymouth on Tuesday. Tho Ruru arrived in port a day earlier than was expected, and now leaves for Gisborne direct to-day instead of on Monday. Tho Mapourilia arrived, at Nelson yesterday from Greymouth and Westport, and it is hoped to dispatch her for Wellington at 3 o'clock this morning. She will arrive hero shortly after noon. Tho Komata, from Westport, and the Kamo, from Greymouth, aro duo here on Sunday. Advico was received yesterday stating that the vessels would leave the ports mentioned above to-day. From Calcutta, with a' cargo of Eastern merchandise, the Wailiora arrived at Bluff yesterday morning. She will subsequently visit Duncdin and Lyttelton, and is duo hero on November 11. In continuation of lier voyage from London, tho Port Lyttelton- is expected to leave Sydney to-day for Auckland, Napier, and Wellington, and is dne hero on November 20.
