MANAWATU SHOW

; PEOPLE'S DAY ' ri iy ; - : ' i A GREAT GATHERING (Special Bopoitev.) r- -t Palmerston North, November 3. To-day, People's' Day at the show, was gloriously fine, and from early lnormne great crowds of peoplo poured into town. By afternoon an-immense concourse had gathered,,.and tho 6pectaclo was a tributo to the popularity of the great spring show. Little judging remained to be done; 't.lio day was devoted to inspection of the exhibits, and enjoyment of the outing. The principal atraction at the grounds during the afternoon were the horse events in the jumping ring. To witness these the grandstand and tho lawn wero packed with people, and the raised circlo which skirts the ring was often quite inadequate to accommodate all .who wished to view the competitions. The show of 1916 ha s been a big success, and tho man who took good care that nothing but bad weather would bring failure was tho president (Mr. J. M. Johnston). Mr. Johnston has long been a valuable worker for the association, and this year, with the presidential duties devolving upon him, ho saw; to it that nothing which would 'assist towards a big success was left undone. Tho president, of course, did, not do all or.nearly all that was done.

lie was assisted by an enthusiastic committee and executive officers, imbued, one should say, with the idea of maintaining the show in its position at tho head of New Zealaud agricultural gatherings. , pjg championships.
