A RETURNED SOLDIER'S SUICIDE

SAD CASE AT CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 2. Corporal Archibald Burns, a returned soldier, shot himself with a revolver this afternoon. Two men who were motoring into Christchurch from the Rangiora show met liim at Bolfast and offered to give him a ride into town, which lie accepted. At Papanui he expressed a desire to alight, and the car was stopped. As his manner was strange, the motorists communicated with his parents, and at their request tlioy returned and induced him to como witli them, promising him that they would take liim either to tho Waimakariri River or New Brighton. Coming down the Papanui lload Burns became restless, and made to open the door of tho car. Ho was prevented from doing so, and immediately produced a revolver and shot himself in the head, dying' at once. At the inquest a verdict of suicide whilo in a state of unsound mind was returned. Deceased left with the .Canterbury Battalion of the Main Body, and was wounded tit Siivla. Ho was to England, where he was under treatment for severe nervous breakdown, following his injuries.
