EXHIBITION OF ROPE AND TWINE.
Very few people indeed aro awaro of the splendidly equipped ropo and l twino works which are operated in Christchurch by Maddren Brothers, but those who visited P&lraerston Show had their eyes opened as to tho great variety of products manufactured by tho firm in question from New Zealand hemp. The exhibition, which is located, just inside the door of tho machinery hall, forms part of tho output of one of tho largest manufacturing plants in Now Zealand, and includes rope in all sizes, tether linos, clothes lines, halters, two and three-ply cords,, and binder twine._ Til is latter product is made up into nico compact balls, and tho quality has mado tho namo of tho firm, Maddren Bros., quite famous, not only in New Zealand, but in other parts of the world. This can be understood when it is stated that Maddren Bros, woro awarded the gold medal for binder twino at tho Panama Exposition, and also the diploma of honour, they being the only Isew Zealand firm to achieve such distinction. Then, again, at Palmerston Show the firm wero awarded first for binder twino and first for unscutohod fibre, so that it will bo seen tho eulogistic remarks concerning the exhibition are well merited., Tho firm grow tho flax and then mill it, andi quito a. largo number of hands aro employed in the production of these necessary articles of manufacture. Tho exhibition is well worth inspection by visitors to tho big show.—(Published by arrangement.)
