PATRIOTIC CONCERT

' The, Wellington College Old . Girls' 'Association must be congratulated on the success of their concert on Saturday night: Tho Concert Chamber was quite tilled upstairs by an audience that was enthusiastic and, appreciative. Sweets wero sold during tho evoning by the Misses Willcocks, R. Willcocks, E. Wilson, M. Thornton, M. Still, R. Leamon, M. Thompson, and L. Greening. These young ladies wero all dressed is white, and wore quaint-mob-caps banded with pink ribbon. Tho committee consisted , of the, Misses Pope, Anyon, Bull, and Salmon. Tho college orchestra, conducted by Miss Medleyj gave an .excellent rendering of Mozart's Minuet and Trio in E Hat, and vooaTiJbms contributed by Madam Anderson and Miss' Barry wore doubly encored. The Misses Baily and Beere)* pupils of Miss Beere, danced a delightful measure, and the elder of the children sang as she danced "My Little Dream Girl." Miss Campbell's pupil, Miss Frances Muter, in her .dazzling, fluffy plumage, posed and poßtnred, and most Dicturesquely Hied, to the moving strain]? of Saint Saras'.'• "Le Cygno.'' A juvenile edition, and a very talented one indeed, of Harry Lauder, is young Master .Winston M'Carthy, a bonnio j

wee laddie, with a clear, true voice, which easily filled the hall. His enunciation is good, and .his acting and gestures, delightful. ' Mr. Norman Aitken gave an excellent rendering from a ppem by the Australian poet, C. J. Dennis, whose worke were recently reviewed in our literary column by "Liber." Spotty, the Australian soldier, who "swanked" about his knowledge of French, which always' irritated his "pals£_ and who so gallantly died with "0 rowar" upon his lips, will not be easily forgotten." Mr. Hamiltoni Hodgek'was'in excellent voice in Ms item "Mine Enemy," he generously responded ■to several encores. This varied and excellent programme was brought to a clobo by a comedietta, "Between the Soup and the Savoury," acted by the Misses Nicholls, . M.; Nicholls, and M. Lyons. Tho cook, the parlourmaid, and the "tweeny" are all busy sending up tho various courses to the dining-room, . and chatting over their own, but mostly their employers' affairs, and from course to courßß tho ] parlourmaid brings the latest bulletins of the conversatios in tho diningroom. All this was really capitally acted by the ladies, and the playlet was much enjoyed by all present. The Mayor's Patriotic Fund should benefit materially by the efforts of the college girls.
