SPLENDID RALLY IN THE NORTH
SEA FIGHT IN THE , CHANNEL
NO CHANGE IN THE DOBRUDJA ■ 1_
AN UNPROFITABLE OUTING Rumania has rallied.with wonderful vigour and effect on her northern frontier, and on several sectors the over-eager enemy.has been sharply checked, repulsed, and many of him taken prisoner. There is no change in the situation in the Dobrudja. A prolonged and severe battle has been raging on the Russian front in Galioia and Volhynia. A message from Rome states that German reports indicate a new and important offensive by the Russians, but tho official reports give no clue to the nature of the blow. There is a hostile movement in the Pinsk region, and as far north as Riga there, is a perceptible stir. The Italian pressure on the Isonzo is becoming so acute that Austrian reserves intended for the Russian frontier have been'.detained for nearer emergencies, while the defenders of Trieste have Been stiTfoned with a leaven of the Hun. Thero Jas been a lively battle between British and German destroyers, the result being distinctly in oiir favour. The Germans made a dash on our cross 'Channel troop transports, and bagged one empty transport! In Australia the anti-conseriptionists are leading on the present state of the poll, but-the final result will not Be" announced till to-day.
