PRICE OF BUTTER
A PROTEST AND A REPLY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganul, October 28. A few days ago Mr. G. V. Pearce, M.P., telegraphed! the Hon. J. Allen protesting agaiust the Government scheme to lower the price of butter as it penalised hard-wcrkiag milkers to the benefit of all classes in the cities. The Acting Prime Ministor has replied as follows: —"I am sorry that you should see reason to ; protest'against the attempt of the Government to prevent the increased cost of living by what seems <t reasonable proposal. It can hardlybe said in this wart time that, the dairy producer i 6 penalised. Certainly bo has been receiving very high prices for bis produce, arid ho has been able to get that because, at the cost of the Empire, the seas have been kept open to bim.
