WOMAN DROWNS HERSELF. PLUCKY ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. (By Tolegraph—Special Correspondent.) Masterton,. October 27. . The wife of Mr. Patrick Buckley, a resident of this town, drowned herself in the Ruamahnoga River this morning. She was thirty-one years of age, and leaves five young children. Miss Buckley, sister-in-law of the deceased, made a plucky attempt to rescue' the woman, and at the inquest this afterjnoon, wncn a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned, the Coroner said that Miss Buckley would be recommended for recognition to the Royal Humane Society. TWO MORE INQUESTS! Mr. D. (;r. A. Cooper,' District Cor* oner, held two inquests yesterday afternoon. The inquiry into the circumstances of the death of John Reardon, which took place at the gaol, was the first case taken. Medical evidenco showed that deceased died ' from alcoholic mania, accentuated by heart and kidney disease. A verdict was returned accordingly, the Coroner remarking that the prison staff had done everything possiblo for deceased. Albert Henry Jones, while driving a load of coal along Waterloo Quay on Tuesday last, endeavoured to _ quieten his horses, which had been frightened by a passing train. Ho moved out from the dray on to tho left shaft, and lost his balance, and fell heavily to the roadway. The .wheel of the dray passed over his head, killing him instantly. A verdict was returned of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone.
