Owners, of motor-cars, and judging from the celerity and caution mingled which our pedestrians have to e.xerciso when crossing the Wellington streets, there must be a great many of them, are hereby reminded that the wounded soldiers in tho Victoria Military Hospital are badly in need of a few more drives. It is understood : that there are only two cars which aro placed regularly at the service of our invalids. Home of compassion. v Tho bpistorous weather last Saturday interfered with tho work of clearing sho gorso on tho grounds attached to the Homo of Compassion at Island Bay. For several Saturdays voluntary workers havo been assisting the Sisters by grubbing the gorso which is soriously :cncroaching on tho grazing grounds of tho homo's cow herd, from which is dorived tho principal means of sustenance for tho largo number of baby inmates at the homo. Tho grounds are very, extensive, and the scrub thick, so that there is ample scope for all volunteers this afternoon to help, and the more that assist the , sooner will .the work, he finished. ;It is to bo hoped, theroforo, that a'.large number will respond and. assist tho institution, which is doing so much good in our' midst. .

Girls' College Sports and Prize-giving.! At .yesterday's meeting of the Governors of the Wellington College and Girls' College it was agreed that'the annual sports in connection with the Girls' College should' take placo on November 17 and that the proceeds therefrom should bo contributed towards the War Relief Association and Red' Cross Fund. It was also decided that the Girls' College "Speech Night" . should tako place in t3io Concert Chamber on the evening of December 15, and that Her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool be asked to preside. Miss M'Lean, the Lady Principal, wrote suggesting that some of Jho prize books that were' not allocated at the end of 1914 on account of the war should bo awarded this yoar, as they only deteriorated with keeping.
