A'French official communique states:—"The Gorman couuter-attaoks at Verdun failed. The Commandant of Douaumont Fort was found underground, and was made prisoner." •

OVER FOUR- THOUSAND UNWOUNDED PRISONERS TO DATE

(Rcc. October 26, 7.20 p.m.) , Paris, October 25. A French official communique states:—"Wo repulsed .three counterattacks at Haudromont and Douaumont, and made progress eastward of , Fuiniri Wood, and northwards of Chenois. Tho number of unwounded prisoners counted up to date is 4500."

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The High Commissioner reports:— London, October 25, 10.50 p.m. A French official report states"Northwards of Verdun the Germans twice counter-attacked the wings of our new front; once at the quarries at Haudromont, where they were repulsed, and'the other time at Damloup Battery. Our new conquests were maintained."
