AIL-ROUND REDUCTIONS
NEW TARIFF NOW IN FORCE
. For some time past there has 'been a feeling tliat the tariff of charges for the Town. Hall and Concert Chamber were rather stiff in comparison with ;t)iose charged for similar halls in Mel- . bourne and Sydney, whore entertainers have an enormous population to draw upon compared with Wellington. • This matter has boon_ represented • to ,the Mayor .and. councillors at various limes, and as the result of inquiries, and taking conditions into consideration, a new scale of charges was submitted to tho council last weak, and approved. Tho reductions aro fairly substantial, and tho scale, as now fixed, may 'be said ,to bo quite reasonable, and should be an inducement to more frequent lettings than haß been tho case during the past year or so, For the guidance of those interested, some' of the now- charges compared with the old are quoted:— Large Hall. ' ity. 210 1.10 only increases are for 'the use of ,the cinematograph cabin, which, appears on the schedule at £1 per night. 'Formerly it was 15s. for the first night ■and 5s for subsequent nights in a sea'son; and the fee for practising on the grand organ lias been raised from. 2s; to .3s. 6d. per hour in the daylight (not in office hours), and from 3s. to 4s. 6d. for practice in the evening. The use of the organ for rehearsals for a performance has bccn : reduced from £1 ss. to £1. The chargo for balls remains the same in the case of both halls, but ■when given in aid of local charities a discount of' 20 per cent, (instoad of 15 per. cent.,- as formerly) is being allowed.
