Tho Mararoa will arrive in port at the usual time from Lyttelton, and both' vessels berth at tho Ferry Wharf. The Mararoa remains in .port until, tomorrow evening, when sho vrill relieve the Pateena on tho ferry service, and the Pateena will then proceed south for overhaul. AOItOSS THE PAOIFIO. Two vessels which are looked upon as exceptionally smart sailers aro tho -barque Louisa Craig, owned by Messrs. G. H. Scales, Ltd., of Wellington, and the .American barque Golden Gate, and New Zealand shipping men aro at present iratohiog with interest tho raco at present taking placo across the Pacific. The Golden Gate left San Francisco on September 9, with a cargo of benzine, 'coal oil, distillate, and motor spirit for Auckland, and ten days later the Louisa Craig cleared from San Franoisco with a similar cargo for 1/yttolton. The Golden Gato holds tho record for the passage from Wellington to San Francisco, ead. tho Louisa Craig has a reoord from Auckland to tho Sandwich-Islands. This befog the case, news of either of tho vessels is awaited with interest.

Captain Williamson, late'chief officer of the Wahine, has takon over command of the Karomu, in succession to Captain Petorsop, who has come ashore. Mr. S. Scollay, second mate of the Kokiri, lias signed off, and has been replaced by Mr. W. Jackson. Mr. A. H. Kitching, of the shipping department of Messrs. Bannatyne and Co., returned to duty yesterday morning. Ho has been away on holiday leave. Messrs. E. V. Delaney, S. H. Pickering, and H. On account of having to have her compassos adjusted, the John did not get away for Timaru, Oamaru, and Duno din yesterday, but will sail to-day. The Waitomo, which arrived in port from Oaloutta, via Auckland, on Friday last, is to proceed to Newcastle, at noon to-day.

The Toiuwera is to leave Lyttelton today, and is due here on Thursday. She leaves the same day at 5 p.m. for northern ports. The Union Company advise that the vessel takes no Napier or Gisborne cargo, and A-uokland cargo will bo received until 10.30 a.m.

The Kokiri left here last evening for West-port and Qreymoutb. At the latter port tho vessel will load timber for Sydney. xTie Kamo and the Komata will leave port-to-day for Greymouth and Westport respectively. Both vessels load back to Wellington.

The Itosamond will sail about the end of this week, probably Friday, for Timaru and Dunedin. ' ■

Owing to the ropairs to the steering gear of tho Kittawa not yet being completed, the vessel does not leave for Lyttelton until noon to-day.

The Defender is to sail to-day for Blackball and Hokitika.

Better weather is being experienced at Waitaia, and the Port Napier will probably get away for Wangimui to-day. She will subsequently go 9011 th.

Advices from Sydney state that the work of repairing the barquentine Senorita has been completed at Newcastle, and she is now re-loading the cargo. of hardwood discharged in order to allow her to be docked. In order to allow Captain Whitton a holiday, Captain Reynolds, late of the'-s.s. Wallsend, will tako temporary command of the Senorito.
