HUTT AFFAIRS
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. ,
Tho Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin) presided at the meeting of the Lower' Hutt [(Borougli Council last evening,' and 'there wero also present: Councillors Hobbs, M'Dougall, Cleudon, Carver, Sloldrum, Hodgins, Ball, and Brassel. On tho suggestion of the borough 'solicitor, a resolution was.passod making the interest on 'the Hutt Boad loan 'debentures payable at the Bank of New Zealand, .Wellington,- instead of Lower Hutt.
The council was advised by its'soliciijfcor .that it had power to issue licenses 'to registered plumbers under its bySaws, but could not charge any fee for same. Also that a registered plumber iwoul3 commit an offenco Tinder the bylaws if he did sanitary plumbing in jth'e borough without first, having obtained a liccnso from the local authority, and suggested that the borougli Ib.v-laws of 1906 should be amended to .comply with 010 amendments in tho (law prescribed by the. Plumbers' Registration Act. It was resolved >to ,'amend the by-laws as suggested. K leEter was received from the Agricultural Department stating that the [matter of destroying ragwort had been fbrouelit under tho notice of ih'e local 'Fields Inspector. , The engineer's report besides dealing >ith works in progress, etc., showed ■that the expenditure for the fortnight en'ffed Octooer 20 under the district fund account totalled £183 10s. . 2d., Arid uiiuor ille gas aocount £38>l0s. iod'.. total £222 Os. lid.
The Mayor announced that the Audi-;to?-General had passed the -borough :ba!ance-sheet without attaching a tag to it-.'
