Final roturns from tlio camps, mado u)) on Monday, show tliat the Twentysecond Rciutorcemeilt moblised last week 973 men short of • its required strength. The shortages for tlio four military districts wero as follow: — Auckland 169 Wellington 286 Canterbury 281 Ofago,- 237

The districts were asked last week to make up their shortages by Wednesday of this week, and supplementary drafts will enter camp to-morrow. But reports from tho districts have shown that there is no likelihood of the response being large, and Defcnco Headquarters has decided, therefore, to extend the period for another week. Ihfi recruiting officers havo been asked to send forward as many men as possible to roach camp on Wednesday of nest week. , „. . The net shortages in the Wellington Military District were as follow:—Group o, 57; Group 6j 53; Group 7, 12; Group 8, 32; Group 13, 23; Group 19, 36; Group 20, 73; total, 256. Aaditional men will be sent into camp from these districts to-day, hut the number is uncertain. Some of tho men who were registered for the lVenty-tlurd Reinforcements have been asked to join, the Twentv-second Reinforcements, and a few additional recruits for this month's draft have been secured smco last Tuesday. It is expected that tho shortage in Group 5 (Wellington City nrd suburbs) will be reduced by about 25 men, but there will still be need toother recruits to come forward for tho supplementary draft that is to enter camp on 'Wednesday next.
