It had been intended, in_ connection with Labour Day celebrations, that Mr. H. S. Alpc, of Christchurch, should walk from tho Upper Hutt to the General Post Office, a distance of twenty-one miles, and from thence to the sports at Newtown Park. Subsequently tho Labour Day Committeo agreed that Sir. Alpo should defer his performance until Red Cross Day (November 3)7 On that date a carnival will be held on tho Basin. Reserve, and it will bo thero that Mr. Aipe will finish his walk from tiie Upper Hutt.
