GERMAN AEROPLANE OVER THAMES ESTUARY
BOMBS DROPPED IN SHEERNESS. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. London,' October 22. An aeroplane dropped three bombs in Sheerness Harbour, and one on the i ail way station, damaging some carriages. It was driven off. No casualties are reported. The Admiralty has announced that naval gunfiro brought down a German seaplane, believed to be engaged on a raid on Sheerness. RAIDER DROPS INTO THE SEA. (Rec. October 23,' 7 p.m.) London, October 23. The raider which appeared over Sheerness dropped into the soa. PROFESSOR DAVID WOUNDED NOTED SCIENTIST AT THE FRONT. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright Sydney, October 22. Professor David has been wounded in France. In 1907 Professor T. W. _E._ David, of Sydney University, was within sight of his fiftieth birthday. When ho offered himself as a member of the Shackleton Antarctic Expedition he was very nearly declared ineligible on the score of age. But he had the courage and energy of youth, and lie went south as the chief geologist of the expedition. His first feat in the Antarctic was to lead a party to the top of Mt. Erebus, the mighty Volcano which smokes above the stark and sullen solitudes of Ross Island. During 1908 he and two companions travelled across the frozen heights of Victoria Land to the South Magnetic Polo-. The journey was one of extraordinary difficulty and danger, excelled only by Sir Ernest Shackleton's dash to within 100 miles of the geographical South Pole, but Professor David marohod with the younger men. Now, when he confesses to 56 years, Professor David has- been wounded in Prance, where be went because the Australian Mining Corps needed the services of. an expert geologist in the field. He is a man of whom Australia has reason to be very proud.
