BOWLS
The Kelburn Bowling Club was unfortunate in its selection of a day for commencing the season. Play was, of course, out of the question. A goodly number of male enthusiasts, however, assembled, and the ceremonial part of tho proceedings was gone on with, except that the weather conditions forbade a lady being asked to deliver tho first "kitty" in the time-honoured fashion. The president, Mr. .P. Moadowcroft, briefly welcomed those who had braved tho elements, and expressed a hope that despite the green not being available for play, it was looking remarkably well. Members could confidently look forward to haying a first-class green next year,' the earliest possible period in which a good turf is attainable being three >ears, according to the opinion of those competent to judge. As howling was clearly out of the question, after partaking of afternoon tea thoso present beguiled the remainder of the afternoon with cards.
