HOSPITAL SHIP MARAMA AT DUNEDIN
IC7 SOLDIERS ON BOARD. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, October 22. The hospital ship Marama arrived in port this afternoon,, bringing 167 soldiers, 20 nurses, and a matron. There are thirteen cot cases, mostly wounds. About ten of tho men have lost a limb. The majority of tho meu on board were wounded in France. F. Rcdpath, of tho Wellington Infantry, died on the way out. The weather was rough between Durban and Fremantle and also yesterday. Tho vessel left Southampton on August 31, and landed about 400 men in Australia. Speaking at _ tho reception to tho men, the Earl of Liverpool said that the Marama would next go on to Bombay, to pick uj> men from Mesopotamia. Ho had received letters from leading men in India expressing their thanks for the use of tho vessel, and ho ako had received a letter from King George, expressing his hearty appreciation of the First and Second Battalions of tho N.Z. Riflo Brigade, which ho inspected about six weks ago. The Minister of Defence (the Hon: James Allen) said that the Malieno and Marama had carried 33,860 wounded soldiers.
The Canterbury men will leavo by the second express on Monday, and the North Islanders will leave by the Maori on Tuesday for Wellington direct.
