VIOLENT AND BITTER STRUGGLE ON EAST FRONT
,■ Petrograd, October 20. There is a bitter struggle on the Volkynia line, east of Vladimir Volynski and Sokal, where the Germans have concentrated their artillery. Both sides are .concentrating to tho utmost ion the Rumanian front before the winter, as tho Germans desire to knock out Rumania. The Russians are making an effort to obliterate the possibility of German danger, hence the extreme violence of the struggle on General Brusiloff's front and at tho Doma Vatra Pass, where the Russians and Rumanians join up. ENEMY DRIVEN BACK TO THE RUMANIAN FRONTIER London, October 20. ' _A. Rumanian communique states: —"We have repulsed attacks in the Goioasa-Trotus Valley, and have dispersed infantry attacks in the TJzu Val- • ley. We drove the enemy back to the frontier. "The enemy adopted the offensive on the whole Dobrudja front, but we repulsed him and his right flank and centre. He withdrew his left wing towards Lingrd." A Russian communique states:— [ 'Thero has been a stubborn battle to the north of Kiselin. The enemy is violently .attacking to the north of Kuropafmika and to tho south of Svistelniki. The enemy's offensivo south of the Doma Vatra Pass has been repelled. The enemy has suffered heavy losses in tho Dobrudja." GENERAL VON FALKENHAYN WOUNDED. • Zurlc!l,\October 21. General von Falkenhayn has been wounded in a leg, and has relinquished the TransyTvanian command.
