LORD MILNER'S ANCESTRY
Lord Milner recently replied to the; attacks that have been made on him on account of his alleged German origin in an interview that appeared in the "New York Times." Lord . Milner says: "Latterly I have been denounced ns a 'German.' And it is quite- true that I was born in Germany, that 1 had a Gorman grandmother, and a partly German education. More than that, I have a great appreciation ot tho strong points of the Germans, with their patriotism, their thoroughness, their fidelity to science, and their marvellous gift of org-anisation. But Ido not think a, man is a. worse patriot ior being able to.recognise tho strong points, of other nations and oven ot enemies. And it. is really humorous that those who are .now raising a hue and cry about my-being a German are the very, same people to'whom 1 have for years and years been and with much more reason, because 1 was ultra-British—an out-and-out British Imperialist."-
