HAIG'S APPEAL TO AUSTRALIA
DIVISIONS IN FRANCE FAR BELOW STRENGTH • REQUESTS FOR STRONG DRAFTS By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Rec. October 20, 9.30 p.m.) Melbourne, October 20. Sir Douglas Haig has cabled Mr. W. M. Hughes (the Federal Prime Ministo tho effect tliat the Australian Divisions in Franco aro far ■ below strength, and that new drafts are not arriving in sufficient numbers. "Your divisions have fought splendXiy," he says, "but they cannot continue to achieve results unless their strength is kept up/ Tho successes of tho past few months justify an absolute confidence in our power to win the final victory, but it has not yet been won, and to complete our work, and secure an enduring peace, the utmost efforts of the Empire and of our Allies will be required for a long time yet. I hope that strong drafts will be dispatched, and the strength of the divisions maintained."
