Mr.-C. C. Odlin has received advice that his cousin, Corporal Manson Glover, was killed in action on September .27. Corporal Glover was wellknown ia "Wellington, Napier, Dunedin, and Nelson; where he was born. '■'•-

Mr. J. Doyle, chief clerk in the Gisb'orne office of the Union Steam Ship Company, has been transferred to the Rarotonga branch of the company as manager, in place of Mr. D. Morrison. Mr. J. Bird, late of the Burnie (Tas. mania) office, is now chief clerk at Gisborne.

; Corporal L. S. Drake, formerly motor expert, to -the Wellington .City Corporation, is returning home by .the hospital ship Marama. Corporal Drake was a member of the Army .Service Corps.

Mr. Samuel' Paul Andrews, .whose death has occurred, was at one time a noted public man in Christchurch, being a member of the House of Representatives for Christchurch 18791881. He sat as a member of the Canterbury Provincial Council,: and was for three years in the City Council. He took keen interest in athletics, and was champion x sculler of New Zealand for five years. . He was for years a vicepresident of the Christchurch Sports Association. '•

Captain A.-D.Sloane has, according to Featherston Camp Orders,, been transfer/ed to Wellington to take up duties of adjutant of hospital ship Marama. 2nd Commission, as from September 12.

Mrs. M. V. Dinneen, mother of the late Captain J. D. Dinneen, ■ has received from the Governor a telegram conveying to her Vhe sympathy or His Majesty and the Queen, and another message expressing his personal sympathy. Captain Dinneen had special distinction amongst New Zealanders in his educational career. In ..his- -youth ho .-won a scholarship which" admitted: him-to the Auckland Grammar School, and then a senior scholarship under which he remained at the school. Next he carried off a New Zealand University scholarship, and later on he was nominated, as the Auckland candidate for one of the Rhodes scholarships allotted to Now Zealand. Part of his education was carried on at. St.' John's College. While a scholar at the Grammar School Mr. Dinneen was captain of its first .football fifteen. ..He, also played in senior Rugty;ro.(Jtbain and when at college was captain of the St. John football team when it won the, six-a-side championship.
