A HANDSOME GIFT
— ♦ I BY THE NEW ZEALAND INSURANCE CO. From Mr. H. E. Kempthorne, local manager of tho New Zealand Insurance Company, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has received tho following letter:— "I enclose herewith cheque for £166 13s. 4d.-, being tho second of those equal annual instalments voted by this company towards the Wellington Patriotic Funds. I would refer you to my head office instruction regarding the disposal of this 6um, viz., that one half of the same bo forwarded to the organisation of the Y.M.C.A. catering for the comforts, etc., of the New Zealand men at the front, the balance to be applied to any purpose whatsoever the Patriotic Committee may decide." The Mayor has replied stating that tho sum of £83 6s. Bd. lias been forwarded to the Y.M.C.A., that tho sum of £41 13s. 4d. had bnon contributed to the Mayoress of Wellington's Committee of the Lady Liverpool Fund for Christinas Gifts for our men at the front, and tho balance had boon paid into tho Mayor's Patriotic Fund. "Please convoy," concluded the Mayor, "my sincero thanks for your company's splondid contribution."
