SOME OP THE AWARDS

Society's spring Show was a pronounced success both ou Wednesday, and -Thursday, and .-|the attendaneo to-day was remarkably good. Tina weather induced every-, ouo to turn out, and it is 'seldom that bo many country farmers have visited itlfe Hawke's' Bay Show Grounds. In Many other respeots'also the show was <th. almost unqualified success. . The cattle, sheep, and pig classes were unusually attractive, and tho entries wero more numerous than on many 'other occasions. In the, sheep sections. Unoob, Border Leicester, English Leiooster, ltomnoy Marsh, Shropshire Downs, Merinos; and Southdowns, / trero well represented, Soutlidowns, Romney Marsh, and Llncolns predominating. In each class the sheep were considered to he a,hout on a par with /tho standard of last year's entries. - "Among the best-known competitors in thoseo lasses wore Messrs. W. Porry ((who secured tho ohampion in rams), -Henry Gaiaford (reserve champion), Sirs. Ormond (tha only exhibitor of Uqrder Leicesters), G. E. Allen (who "secured the reserve champion for _ ewes), Douglas M'Lean, Airs. David "\Tliyto "(who gained tho champion and roserve champion in Shropshire rams),. - fi>. G. Goulter (championship in Shropewe?). Richmond;' and Fernie practically swept the board in Southdowns, securing all the' championships. In tho cattle section tho standard was also well maintained, and was even considered, by some to show a slight improvement all round. The ' Shorthorns werb particularly fine, 'and wero easily favourites. As usual, Mr. Douglas : M'Lean secured top place in this section, his Diamond Star gaining tho bull championship. This ,is his third win with Diamond Star. Among the other exhibitor's .wero Messrs. G. -A. -Turner, Arch M'Lean, W. Howard Booth, Sir Walter Buchanan, Ernest Short, Donald, M'Kenzie/ C. A. J. Levotfc, G. F. Moore, B. Chambers, G. R. ißoamish, Ewaii Jefferson, A. S. G.' Carlyon, J. A. Macfarlane, David Buchanan, L. J. Bowden,. Walter Raymond, Jlrs. J. Wall, W. I. Lovelock, S. Other Awards. Mtj' E. J. Watt gained tho champion for-'thoroughbred entire horses, four years old. ill's. J. Wall won the but-tev-fat competition, and. secured first respectively in. grado Shorthorn, and Jersey dairy cows in milk, while Jas. Simmons secured equal distinction for dairy cow, crossbred, in milk. • The poultry, dog, provincial produce, and ladies' needlework sections attracted more attention that usual,' particularly the letter class. Tho winners of the machine shcepslicaring competitions' were: G. Okiangi (open class), nnd_ Q. Anderson (niaiden), their fastest times for shearing tlirco sheep being TJmin. and Bmin. respectively.
