T« ~7 : BUSINESS OP THE COUNCIL •, 'V' — The Wellington City Council met last ov"eiflng. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. •!'. 'Luke), , Councillors R. A. Wright, A. Veitch, T. Bush, M. F. Luckie, W. H. Beiinett, L. M'Kenzie, W. J. niompson, A. 1!. Atkinson, G. Hutcheson, Godber, G. Frost,, and W. H. P. Barber. , TiTo Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association are to be informed in reply to their requests as under:—(l) Asking for a public reserve to ho provided for tho district:' That tho council adhere to their previous resolution,, i.e., that they cannot acquiro a reserve at Island Bay at present. (2) Asking that a progressive policy with regard to works at the Bay bo instituted: That the council is of opinion that tho present tinie is hot opportune for them to prosecute a greater progressive policy than is being carriecj oht'at the present timo! ' (3) ;Asking for the erection in Island Bay , of, conveniences .for both mei\ and women: That piihlic conveniences for bdth men and women are already available'in the tramway terminus waiting-shed. , Tho public sewer is. extended to provide drainage facilities at Block X, Kainui Itoad, Hataitai, upon paynierit by the Hataitai Land Company of £74, as recommended. The contract for. the supply^ of library periodicals', expiring on Uecotnber 31, 1916, was extended for a period of ono year at a 10 per cent, increase in the prices. . Tho taxi-cab staiid in Dixon Street to the west of tho- intersection with i Cuba Street is to be shifted to the s eastern side of the same street, towards he back of tho Royal Oak Hotel, and the expense of shifting the stand telephone, the. council proposes,. is to bo borne by the proprietors of To Aro Houso and the New' House Drapery - establishment, at whose request- this alteration is being carried out. The Melrose Ratepayers'' Association : will bo informed, in, reply to their application for tho erection of lamps in Rodrigo Road and , Rlioda Terra&, o that, owing to the scarcity of material tho request cannot be grauted in the meantime." Tho petitioners for tho'cujvcrtiug of the Waipapa Road Stream are to be' informed that it is regretted that , tlie stair is not availablo at tho present ■time-iu tho City Engineer's' .Department to supply the estimate of the cost of culverting_this stream. An application for ttio formation of Moorhouse Street,; Highland Park, Estate, will be informed that as far as tlie council can estimate at' present-, thcro is no. prospect of their ever making this- road. • < Streets Conimittee reported ' STiat they had again -to submit tho recommendation forwarded to the last council meeting,, with .regard ;to • the. formation of access to Watt Street,, . AVadostowii, a's . under"That... WattStreet be formed. from "the ICidbrook Street tram section end to ,the tj-am- , way cutting, dividing Watt Street-, a bridge- bo_ constructed across the trainway cutting for passenger traflic, and form as much of Watt Strcot from the Anno Street.,end as is .practical."— The recommendation was adopted. I It was reported that-'tho Resorves Committee had agreed to grant tho services of the Superintendent of, Reserves to tho Mount Cook School Committee for the purposo of advising ' them on their school garden. '' The Richrnond Froo Kindergarten Union and tho St. John;; Ambulance Association aro to bo informed in reply to their_ applications for sections of i corporation land for tlio purposo of ereoting a school and ambulance rooms, 'that it is>regretted that tlie council, at present;, cannot accede to their re- | quests. . ,
