WATERSIDE WORKERS
- TWO MEETINGS HELD. Two meetings of waterside workers were held last evening, both being presided over by Mr. I<\ Curtice. The first meeting was for coal porkers, and about 120 men were present. After discussion the Disputes Committee were instructed to meet the employers and discuss the working conditions at Miramar Wharf and Petono Wharf. Other questions relating to coal work wore discussed, and will bo mentioned-at tho above meeting. A general meeting of the union was held later. - •
It was dccided to donate the sum of £10 to the Labour Day Picnic Committee.
A report concerning tho correspondence which had passed between tho exc-. cutivo and miners' conference was read, and it was decidcd to have the correspondence published. Throo members of the union will be brought before tho executive to answer chargcs of divulging tho union's busi-. ncss to non-members. .
' It was reported that the arbiter h;td dccidcd against the union in the "Maitai case," and it was dccidcd to take no further action in tho matter. Tho decision in the "Misiiro case" was given in favour of tho union. This means that men will receive two hours' pay when ordered back after tea, \inlcss tho order conies through tho union.
It was resolved to subsidise tho Waterside Workers' Band to' the extent of £80 per year.
The question of remits for tho Watcrsido Workers' Conference was discussed, and it was dccidcd to rcccivo remits and discuss them at a special genoral meeting of tho, union, which will ho called for tho purpose of discussing remits from other ports.
