DEATH SENTENCE FOR KILLING CONSTABLE DUNCAN. \ By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright Sydney, October 19. Constable Duncan's death was tho outcome of arresting a member of the I.W.W. and the expressed intention of arresting Ronald Kennedy oh a, charge of abusive language in connection therewith. Franz gavo evidence that the Kennedys had arranged for the shooting, and that they threatened to shoot Franz unless ho participated. Counsel explained that the chargo against Michael Kennedy would be taken later.
Ronald Kennedy and Franz were found guilty of .murder, and were sentenced to death.
MICHAEL KENNEDY PLEADS NOT GUILTY. (Roc. October 19, 10.55 p.m.) Sydnay, October 19. - Michael Kennedy, charged with the murder of Constable Duncan, pleaded not guilty. The case was adjourned. Y;M.C.A. OF AUSTRALASIA' 'A NEW ZEALAND SEVERANCE DISCUSSED. Sydney, October 19. The fourth National Convention of the Y.M.C.A. has opened. Delegates discussed n memorandum expressing tho New Zealand Association's dosire for separation from Australian control, without reaching finality. Mr. Virgo stated if tho present progress was continued, the Commonwealth and New Zealand might lead the world in Y.M.C.A. enterprises. The _ report of the New Zealand executive showed that tho association had cleared itself of debt. The ground on which New Zealand was seeking separation was that the distance from Australasia was too great to allow tho associations to be united in the real tense of the word.
