Shearers and ploughmen, particularly tho latter, are at present being eagerly sought after by farmers in Hawke's Ray, says an exchange. In cases tho shearers are being offered 255. per hundred for sheep and the alluring prospects of running up a big cheque havo hcr'u responsible for many Maoris who havo done no shearing for tho past 10 or 15 .years coming into service again.
Tho question of whether certificates should be given in lieu of prize-money was discussed at tho last mooting of tho Genera] Committee of tho Masterton A. and P. Association. Mr. Guy C. Williams contended that'during tho currency of the war certificates should be sufficient. This contention was not supported by tlic majority of t-ho'com-mittee, and it was decided that prizemoney be given as usual.
