Private advices Tecoived in the City yesterday 6tate that'Sasanof is still first choice for the Caulfield C'np, to ba run on Saturday, but Lavendo is only a point longer than the llartain gelding.
Several horses were aboard the Mal'aroa, which arrived from Lyttelton yesterday afternoon. Amongst the number were the New Zealand Cup fancy, Marc Anthony. The black horse, who is in oharge of F. Thomson, will be raced on each day at Trentham. He looks very well, but the distances at Trentham will not be far enough for him. H. Cutts has arrived with the Oaks candidate, Brambletye, a full-sister to Heatherbrae. Adjutant and Glen Helen. E. O'Donnell is here with The Toff and Ample, while Bockhound also returned after an unsiiccessful trip to the Dunedin Meeting. A. Itore arrived from Blenheim yesterday with Heel Tap, Iznaribbon, Ballylar, and Pinono. They were railed to Trentham and will bo amongst the active brigade this morning.
Fiery Cross and Week land will arrivo here to-morrow to fulfil engagements at tho Wellington Meeting. The former has gone on the right way since his dual success at Ashburton, and ho may be ono of the well fancied candidates for the big event on 'Saturday.
No horse will strip better on Saturday than Bimeter, and if the Mack son of Maltster is in a gnlloping humour he should tako a power of beating in tho Shorts Handicap. He has only had one raco this season and may bo 'better for a public gallop or two.
The acceptances received for the Waverloy Meeting on Monday ,iro very good, and the club should have a most satisfactory meeting. In the Cup, Depredation, who defeated Nones at a difforenco of a stone at Wanganui, may find it hmd to present Want with 22!b. Combustion, 10st. 31b., may be favourite in the Hack Hurdles, one milo and a half. There is a very big field in the Moumnhalri Stake*, one mile, but if ho gets'a good passage tho Hawera trained Dood should get tho distance bettor than most of the others. Interlude has dono more racing than the lot opposed to her in the' Brewer Handicap, six furlongs, and tho Bozonian maro may be favourite. In tho Wilson Stakes, four furlongs, thero should be an interesting duel between Royal Chef and Husbandman.
; At Trentham yesterday most of the wort was of a inild order, hut there was ft bit of galloping by horpes which had arrived tho day provious. The Now Zealand Cup candidate, Balboa, attracted favourable attention by defeating Marco Bello over half a mile. Tho Auckland Clip winner looks very well, and tho race ho' will pet in tho Champion Plate will improve him quite a lot. The traditions of the Now Zealand Cup arc against a victory for a horse carrying 9st. 21b.. but it should bo remembered that tho Varco horse is the mastor of woight, he stars well, and will meet a very weak field this year. General entries for the C.J.C. Meeting close on, Friday, lijht.
The well-known start*!?, Air. A. Gr. ; Wood, who is to officiate at the Wftipawa Mooting, 011 Monday next, passed through Wellington yestordsy. Returned visitors from tlio Dunedin Meeting spealc highly of Snub's Now Zealand Cup 'prospects. Mr. C. G. Dalgety's liorse scored very decisively at Dunedin, and hp gavo the impression that a further distance would not trouble him. There will bo racing at Trentham on Saturday and Mondaynext.
