IMPORTED EGGS
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In yesterday's issue of your paper there appears reference. to the British Trade Commissioner's 1915- report on egg- yolks and whites imported into New Zealand. As your readcis might consider that the Commissioner's report was a reflection on tho quality of these imported eggs, it would be as well to point out that very large quantities of Asiatic eggs are imported into England yearly for private and pastrycooks' use, and are considered to be in every way suitable for human consumption.
Mention is mado of the Pure Foqd Act, but readers must remember that the Hon. Heaton Rhodes, -when in charge of tho Pure Food Department, stated that the yolks and whites complied with the pure food regulations, and tliat tho Health Department had thorn tested, and and tnoy could be used and imported under the Pure Food Act. The Hon. G. W. Russell lias just lately expressed the same opinion in answer to a deputation. Tho paragraph is also misleading in the reference that these egga may possib]y he supplied by German firms in China, but it is very improbable that our Home Government would permit importation into England_ from any German firms operating in China.—l am, etc., P.F.A.
