JBT Glbncob.l
If the present fine weather continues, tho .prospects for the Spring Meeting of the Wellington 'Racing Club, liliicli opens on Saturday. • are of the brightest order, and the gathering bids fair tx> be a record one. There are more horses here than ever jreeviously, and were it not for the Waverley and .Waipawa Meetings clashing it is difficult to know what size the fields at Trentham would have been. Tho tracks are in first-olass order, and some good work was done yesterday morning. P. Davis brought down a team of nine, consisting of Desert Gold, Balboa, Egypt, Tete-a-tete, Marco Bello, Beltane, Jistland, Pourparlor, and Bjoniflb.org. They wore given easy tasks. .
J. W. IjOwo worked all bis toam, aud most of them galloped. Chakwana and Seadowii soparately both pleased over six furlongs, and the way the former finished will gain her much support for tho Wainui Handicap on Saturday. She ran the last fire of seven furlongs in lmin. ssec. :
R. J. Mason sent Bimeter ovor six furlongs, the black horse galloping very freely and running tho last five in lmin. dsec.
Nones, wm bitter than Square Deal and .Sedd-el-Bnlir over ten iurloiigs in 2min. ISsec. The former had a big pull in the weights, but she covered a lot more ground- than the others, and may be hard to boat on Saturday.
Ceasefiro was much too good for Elation ovor fivo furlongs.
J. Lowe's two-year-oldsi Exclusive and Matilda, went four furlongs with Bonny Effort, tho trio finishing in tho ordor named.
A very pleasing gallop was done by Btittle Song, Black Night, and' Wapping. The first-named won, but Black Night was under a strong pull at the finish. , Splendant, who is very mncli on tho light side, went half a mile itith Panmure.
Birkenvale was too good for Lingerie and lovesick ovor four furlongs, and Simonides (who ran in blinkers and went perfectly straight) was. too good for his stable companion, Elocution. La Tasse, who was to go .with them, got left at the start.
It is understood that Mr. G. I>. Stead's horses have beou left in the Wellosley Stakes and Champiou Plato in error, and will not bo seen out at tho meeting.
T. Quinlivan yostoi'day railed Skyscraper (The WeJkin—Cape Hatterus) to Trentham, and she will be worked here prior to being shipped- south for the C.J.C. Moeting.
Bisogne, one of the fancicd candidates For the Shorts Handicap, is due at Trentham to-night.
Jockeys H. Young and W. Bell arrived from Dunedin. yesterday. The former went homo to I'ordell, and will return to-morrow. Bell went out to Trentham. C. EmersoD, who was also riding at Dunedin, arrives .this morning.
IT. Cults, with Adjutant and' Glen Helen, arrives from the soutli by the Mararoa to-day. The lattor is 'a maiden, and is engagod in the Pimutaka Handicap, seven furlongs.
Matilda Hose) has boen accepted for in the Taita Handicap, but Mr. Riddiford. will probably run Tier in tho Wollesley Stakes, and let Exclusive carry his colours in tho handicap event.
Providing she stands up to the travelling- Trentham Bose may start favourite in the Wollesley Stakes, with. Birkonvale second choice. The latter is a perfectly shaped colt,, and an attractive mover, but lie has not had a.race, whilo Trentham Rose has started twice. Tho All lied filly is duo hack from Diinedin this morning, as are Kose Pink and Kockbound. The. trio will go straight on to Trentham.
Ilopfield (Master—Circe), whom tho cablegrams report has been purchased by .1. Thorpe, of EUorslio, has been a /most consistent performer during the autumn and spring of this year. He was originally offered- to Mr. E. .Bnick, owner of Three, for 200 guineas, but it is safe to say .1. Thorpe liad to pay considerably more than this sum forhiin.
Panmure looks a picture, but ho is not galloping at; his best, and will want a race or t\so before ho is seen .at his bost. His stable companion, CoasefiTo, is a bit flighty, aiul yesterday showed a disinclination to faco the music.
The hack, Miss Doval, is stated to he certain to start in the Shorts Handicap at Trentham in preference to the October Handicap. Yesterday morning she beat Taringamutu in a try out over six furlongs.
Cabled advice* received s thie week record the death of the well-known horseman, Goo. A. Pine, who went away will the Bth Reinforcements. The deoeased is a brother of the well-known trainers, T. and W. Pine.
