BOWLING

The Johnsonville Bowling Club opened its season on Saturday, in the presence of a "number of bowlers and their friends. The president (Mr. F. TVO'Neil) said the club had several members on active service, namely, Messrs. Hall* Howard.. Simpson, and Sloauc, and this.season it .would be deprived v of the services of Mr. Norman Cook, one of tho best players, who had responded to the'call of duty and was now on tho way to tho front.. Mr. H. E. Harrap, late vice-president, presented the club with a pair of bowls for a champion singles competition amongst its. members last year, which he had much pleasure in handing to the winner, Mr. .Alec Morgan. He called on Miss O'Neill to throw the jack, after which he declared the green open for play. Refreshments provided by Miss O'Neill were handed'round during the afternoon.
