Tho total value of the articles was assessed at £5 3s. 6d. Doig pleaded guilty, and Inspector Hendrey asked that ho bo remanded till Saturday next for sentence on account of accused being a perfect stranger to the police, and they wished to make some inquiries. Tlio Magistrate agreed to this course being taken. A plea of guilty was entered by James M'Michael, alias John Williams, when he was charged with the theft, of a pair of boots valued at 13s. 6d., the property of Edwards and Sons. Aconstablo saw accused endeavouring to conceal something underneath his coe.t. Ho was searched, and the boots found. At first M'Michael said that he had bought them from a man in the street whom he didn't know, but later he admitted tho theft. A fino of £3, in default a month's imprisonment, was imposed. Daniel M'Randle, who had previous convictions against him for drunkennoss, was fined 10s., in default three days' imprisonment.
