The vessel takes Wellington tj cargo for Napier and Gisborno only. « LEITRAM AT LIVERPOOL. J The local office of tho F. and S. Lino 5 advise that the liner Leitram arrived at « Liverpool on October 12. Bhc left Auck- , laud on August 30. . } KATOA FROM SINGAPORE. ; From Singapore, via Samarang. Fre- ! mantle, and Bunbury, the Katoa arrived . in Wellington shortly after noon on Satur- i day. The veEsel left Singapore on Septeni- I ber 10, with part general cargo for New i Zealand. She left Samarang, where she loaded more general cargo for New Zealand on September 14, and arrived at Fremantle on September 24. She loaded 200 ■ tons of cargo, and left on tho eve of September 25 for Bunbury, where she arrived on September 26. After loading a quantity of jarrah timber for New Zealand, the vessel left Bunbury on September 30. and on the trip to New Zealand, which lasted fourteen days, met with south-easterly winds, which greatly retarded the vessel s progress. . . , Captain A. H. Davey, who is in charge of the Katoa, has associated with nim:Ohief officer. Mr. H. J. Claydon; second, Mr. E. J. M'Clellan; third, Mr. Oharles Jumu; chief engineer. Mr. P. Brewer; second, Mr. Charles M'Phereon; third, Mr. Elley; fourth, Mr. K. Gow. The Warrimoo sailett Jrom Port Chalmers on Thursday afternoon for Newcastle under the command of Captain E. h. Smith, who a few years ago was one of tho best-known masters iu the service of tho Union Company. It is understood (says tho "Otago Times") that negotiations are in progress for the salo of tho Warrimoo, but it is .uncertain how far theso have proceeded. It is probable, however, that the vessel, which has been a familiar visitor to all New Zealand ports during the past 25 years, may not be seen again in these waters-at least for some time. It is suggested that from Newcastle eho will proceed to Singapore and. will there transfer her flag to an Eastern shipping company. There seems to bo some prospect ol the re-organisation of the two shipping companies that aro at present trading between Dnnedin and Invercargill. From what can bo gathered it appears that, owing to competition with the railway, thoro is really not scope for two vosselß in «. service that would undoubtedly provo ' profitable for ono or the other.. Recognising this fact, attempts havo been mado to ' form a new company, which will take over tho present companies and carry on_the ' southern trade- under now conditions. This seems to hiw-o heen tho intention when the matter was flrst mooted somo months ago but negotiations have been susponded for somo time (Dunodin "Times ). The Corinna leaves Dnnedin to-day for New Plymouth, via Nelson and ports. She ;. docs not, however, call at Wellington on Oity'of Agra, which arrived at Lyttelton about a fortnight ago. and. which afterwards went on to Dunedin, loft tho ' latter port on Saturday for Sydney direct to finish discharging. •■ Sho did no, call at any other New Zealand ports this trip.
