The Twenty-second Reinforcements will bo mobilised this 1 week, and as usual the Wellington men will go into camp first. The drafts from the groups in the Wellington Military District will be sont to Trentbam jto-morrow. The figures already available show that the quotas, which include tho additional men required' owing to shortages in previous reinforcements, .will 'not be completed in all cases. Group's (Wellington City and Suburbs) has'beon asked to provide 252 men, and the number availablo up to Saturday night was 203, leavings an apparent shortage of 49. All these men have been attested under tho new system, and have accepted their first day's pay, so that a full muster may bo expected-. Any man who does not present himself to-morrow will rank as a soldier absent without leave, and will requir.o to explain himself qiriokly.
Since the initiation of tho hew recruitiug*.system_on September 27, tho Central Recruiting Office at the Town Hall has kept records which show tho progress of enlistments for each Reinforcement clearly. The'number of men examined at the office, from September 27 to October 14, inclusive, wife 601, of whom 463 were accepted, and 138 rejected. Of tho men accepted, 211 wore for tho Twenty-second Reinforcements, 108 for tho Twenty-third, 94- for the Twenty-fourth, and l 50 for "oxtra.s," which duclude tho Tunnelling Corps, Motor Boat Patrol, «nd Wireless Corps. JJany of theso men had registered under the old system, and woro called up for attestation. Tho number of recruits availablo for the Twenty-second Reinforcements from Group 5 was reduced to 203 for transfers and tho dispatch of men to camp.
Recruits under tho new system ara accepted for general servico only, bait thoy nre allowed to oxpress preference for any particular branches. Tho 203 meir who nro going into camp from Group 5 are classified as follow:—Ambulance, 7;' Engineers. 4; Mounted Rifles, 28; Signal Servico, <t; Infantry, 149; probationary N.C.O.'s, 16.
