RIFLE SHOOTING
SUBURBS CLUB. The annual meeting of tho Wellington Suburbs Defence Eifle Club was held last week in tho lecture room at tho Drill Hall. Tho president of the club, Mr. C. R: Graham, was in the chair. Tho annual report and Mlanco-bheet was presented by the,secretary. The balancesheet showed receipts Jil2S 2s. Sd.; expenditure, ,£U9 lGs. 6d.; assets, .CUS 4s ,Bd.; balance of assets ovor liabilities, Xll39s. Id.; credit balance in bank, £S lis. 2d. The president, in moving the adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, retorted to the great loss the club had sustained in tho loss of two of their old comrades, Fred. Norris and John Given, both being killed in action in France fighting for their home and country. Fred. Norris took an active part in club matters, and was well esteemed by his mates, a good shot, sport, and a soldier. John Given, while a member of the Suburbs Club, took a keen interest in tho club affairs, was a fine shot, and represented tho club on many occasions at rifle meetings and in teams' matches. He was picked to represent the Dominion at tho various meetings £p be held m Ans tralia, but owing to the war these meetings lapsed. Rflmn. Given, up to the time of his death, was a member of the Okawa Eifle Club, Hawke's Bay. He was well known from ono end of the Dominion to tho other as a champion shot and a great sport, and he died like a man. Two cups were received for competition with thanks from Mr. W. Hickson and Mr. E. J. Morrison.
Three resignations were received during the year, F. W. Thompson, A. J. Jackeon, and W. Slaughter, the latter being elected as one of the club vice-presidents. It was decided to open the shooting season at Broadway range, Miramar, on October 21. Tho election of officers resulted:—Patron, His Worship the Mayor, Mr. J. P.
