LABOUR DAY
Preparations for the . carnival at Newtown Park on Monday, October are proceeding satisfactorily. Great interest is being taken in. connection with tho various sporting events, particularly among members of the floinEorcements 1101 V in camp, who will take part m the great tug-of-war contest and the 100 yds. military championship. Tho Boy Scouts will also attend in force, and givo displays ill nmbulanco worlc, signalliifj*, and physical drill. National dancing will he a. feature of the programme, and aided by the Kilties' Bafi'd, ffiould prove a great attraction. Tho committee announce that two cups will bo presented for the following events, viz., primary schools relay race and Hoy Scouts' relay race, and it is expected that keen contests will bo witnessed. Other events, featuring n most comprehensive programme, include baby show, side-shows, novelty events, bands, elc., and provide attraction for voung and old. Tho essay competition 011 the origin and moaning of Labour Day, and which closes with tlio "Judge Essay Competition," Trades Hall, on . Monday next, has aroused keen competition among tho children attending the' primary sohools. '
