BOARD OF TRADE ACTIVITIES.
1 STATEMENT BY MB. DALTON. By Tolegrapli—Press Association. Wanganui, October 13. Questioned this evening as to the significance of tho cabled announcement made by Mr. Bunciman, President of the Board of Trade, as to the constitution of a new and enlarged commercial I department, combining the commercial, | intelligence, and exhibition branches of the Board of Trade, Mr. B. AV. Dal ton, H.M. Trade Commissioner for Now Zealand, said: Tho commercial intelligence branch of the Board of Trade has been in existence for some sixte.en or seventeen years, for the express purpose of doaling with exports. On the outbreak of war tho department. . ..consisted of. some fifty or more officers. Soon after the war.the.staff.was .increased to som.o 200, and as an expert organisation" it had, during tho war period, done a great deal, to develop British trade, devoting special attention to the possibilities of taking advantage of after-the-war conditions. The exhibition branch is the department of the Board of Trade which organises British representation at all the larger international exhibitions. Tho now development, concluded Mr. Dalton, "will obviouslj mean a very wide extension of the work of the Board of Trade in tho development of British manufacturing industries and tho introduction of British goods overseas by placing before tho .overseas markets information as well as the goods thomselves."
