KARORI ROCK LIGHT
"A CURIOUS MISHAP. The Government steamer Hinemoa [ ventured into Cook Strait on Wednesday in order to see if it were possiblo to do any work in connection with ' tho repairing of the new : automatic light on Karori Rock, which has gone wrong. The lens of this light consists of sixteen panes of glass, threo foot in height, and between half and threequarters of au inch thick, set diagonally in astragals. Recently it was discovered that every one of the -sixteen panes was smashed. One theory is that the damage was done, by concussion, but another, and tho moro probablo: one, is that no expansion from the heat of the sun has been allowed for in:the sotting of the panes, and that cnoh ono lias been broken through expanding, quicker than tho iron astragals (or frame). It was found to be too rough to effect a landing on Wednesday, hut at the first opportunity repairs will be effected.
