Information has reached Sydney to the effect that a new Norwegian shipping company is likely to open a regular service to Australia in tho course of the next few months. The.most meagre information is available at present concerning the position, but. it is understood that, tho vessels are all of tho cargo class, and will bo big carriers, especially of timber. Tho fleet to bo used has been secured; in fact, it is Teportea that, some of tho, vessels that will bo used in tho servico are already known in Australia, and have visited.that, country, under charter, at various' times.

According to the Melbourne "Argus," a wireless message wus dispatched by the captain of the llurunui stating that tlio vessel would arrive in Melbourne from Hew York last Sunday. No word has been received in New Zealand lo tho effect that the vessel has arrived in Melbourne. After discharging at that'port the Ilurunui will come on to Sydney, Auckland, aii<f Wellington and should arrive in this 'port during the lirst few days in November.
HAZEL KEPTON'S KOUGH TKIP. AVitli a full cargo of haidwood tho Schooner Hazel Itopton arrived in Lyttelton on Tuesday morning from Newcastle, after a passage of one calendar month. Good sailing was experienced across the Tasman Sea, and tho vessel reached Capo Farewell after a passage of seventeen days. In tho Straits, however, the vessel met with consistently bad luck. Three times she got to Tho Brothers, and each time was blown back as far as Stephen Island. After clearing Oook Strait, she experienced a- succession of calms, and for four days lay off Cape Campbell. She : was eventually picked up and towed into port bv tho tug lyttclton. Tho Hazel Benton is a schooner of an unusual type. Sho has a, flat botton with rounded bilges, and carries two centre-boards, bong in somo respect not unliko e. scow, although the greater part of her cargo is earned below the deck. It is understood that the vessel will later be fitted with an engine it being intended to nso her in tho meat-lightering trade at Wanganua. Captain Wm. The Waitomo from Calcutta is duo in Auokland at any time now. After discharge the vcsecl will come on to Wellington. The Kowhai, -which arrived in port late last night, for bunkering purposes, sails to-day for Greymouth.
Tho Hinomoa wiU leave on tho visit to the southern Hghthouses at 2 p.m. to-day. .The trip will tako somewhere about three or four weeks, and when sho returns to Wellington tho vessel will go to Karorl Hock, where about half a, day's work is required. From Westport the Kamo is due in port this morning. An endeavour will bo made to get the vessel away on tho return trip on Monday. The Corinna was to leave Now Plymouth at 9 o'clock last evening, and is due hero to-night. It is hoped to dispatch her at noon on Saturday for Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru, and cargo, will be received up till 10.30 a.m. on that day. The Mapourika. which left Greymouth -last night; will got to Nelson shortly before midnight to-night, and is due hero early on Saturday morning. The 3?urakina left Auckland at noon yesterday, and is due in Wellington at noon on Saturday. The vessel leaves for Lyttelton and Dunedin on Tuesday. The Booral is duo from Auckland on Sunday, and will probably get away on Tuesday for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney. The Komata, according to advices received from the Union Company, will leave Westport this evening, and is due'in Wellington on Saturday afternoon. She will sail on the rotnrn trip on Wednesday. The Xgakuta left Greymouth a 11 p.m. on Wednesday, and is due here early this morning. Sho sails for Greymouth on Monday. The Defender left for Picton and Hokitika last evening. Her future movements are not at present known. / Tho Kdpuni. which left Wellington for Patea yesterday afternoon, does not Teturn here this trip, but will (jo from Patea to Punonga and back. She -will then come to Wellington. / It is expected that the Hippie Trill come off the slip this morning, and on Tuesday she will sail for Napier, Gishorne, and Akitio. commencing her usual time-table of getting away on Tuesday and back on Sunday every week. Tho Awahou left for Greymouth last "evening After finishing at Grymou-th she will proceed on to Wanganui. hut her movements after that are not at present known.
