THE NAVY LEAGUE

~T7~. — T~ ~ CELEBRATION OF. .TRAFALGAR DAY. . The Executive Committee of the Navy League has made arrangements for the observance of the anniversary of Trafalgar Day, October 21 nest, in accordance with 'the general scheme which was adopted with so muoh success on the- two preceding anniversaries since the beginning of the war. It will be peculiarly fitting on the forthcoming anniversary < to give universal expressions the appreciation ot all our peoples on the victory achieved by the British Fleet in • the Jutland Battle, the greatest naval engagement which has taken- place since Trafalgar. The Navy League desires to emphasise the fact that the celebration of Trafalgar/Day,-. 1916, shall not merely commemorate the' great deeds ot .British naval heroes, but shall equally make acknowledgment of the splendid services of the Allied fleets in co-oper-ation with the British Fleet in the cause of liberty and humanity. Ine Navy League anxiously desires - that the coming Trafalgar Day should servo as -an opportunity to concentrate the minds of British citizens upon the dominant part -which sea power plays in our Imperial life, and in our prestige among the nations. It has been arranged that the Nelson Column in Trafalgar Square will be decorated as in previous years; and a special feature will be appropriate wreaths to the memory of- each ship lost in the Jutland action. The Navy League will also place floral wreaths on too plinth of the. column to the memory of our chivalrous one-, mies of a former time, whose compatriots are our .comrades in arms today. -.; Everything possible will be done to make the anniversary ono which will stimulate national patriotic effort, and which will bring more closely to the hearts and the thoughts of our people, their entTro dependence for their Imperial safety . and for the prestige of the British namo upon the maintenance of British sea power in co-operation with the sea-power of our Allies in this war.
