MIRAMAR BOROUGH

MEETING OF; THE COUNCIL. ' The Miramar -Borough Council met last evening. Theroiwere present: Mr. ■F. Townsend (Mayor), Councillors Hawthorn, Underwood, Telford, Green; and 'Pollock. A statement of receipts and expenditure for the past six 'months showed the expenditure to bo £10,585' and tho receipts' to be £8244. Oh the expenditure side the heaviest items were: Debit balance at .'March. 31, 1916, £1876: roadmen's wages, £359; supply of water, £449; bus service, £150; tramway expenditure, £575rtrack lighting, £120; Wellington Hospital Board, £326; power station, £132; deposits refunded, £5000. - ■ The Health Department' drew attention to a lack of drainage in Campbell Streot, Seatouri, and suggested that the drainage" system should be extended" to tho street. . ,- : Councillor Green moved," and Councillor Underwood seconded, that the work suggested' by the Department should be carried out. This motion was lost, and the following amendment (by Councillors Hawthorn and Telford) was carried:—"That tho work should be carried out, provided agree to pay half the cost, in proportion to the rateable of their properties." ■'••;• The Wellington Harbour Board wrote approving tho plans of the work to be done on tho'Seatoun foreshore. Tho Health Department made suggestions for dealing, with flies, and it was decided that a quarterly inspection should bo mado of every house in the borough. Tho matter of securing someone to make tho inspection was left to. tho Mayor, and tho engineer will report to .the next meeting of tho council. ,
