.. . JBi GMHCOB.I The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be concluded at Ratidwick to-day. . The Masterton Meeting will take place to-morrow. Wellington patrons can leave Lambton at 7.60 a.m., and arrive at Opaki in time for the first raco. The return, train leaves the racecourso at 5.15 p.m. At Masterton to-morrow, A. Oliver will j ride Splendidus, Rewi Poto, Gold Soult, and Miss Deval in their engagements. As he has given up the training of Mr. Stead's horses, it was expected that T. Quinlivan would return from Sydney yesterday, but he was not aboard the Moeraki, and is evidently waiting for the conclusion of the Randwick Meetling: Tho Tarariaki-owned Rewi Poto has been aocepted for in both the Flying Handicap and the Spring Handicap at Masterton to-morrow, but it is generally thought that the black horse will be . stripped, for. the .sprint event. ■ "The Poriruft' team,' consisting •of Gold Soult''Goldstream, Sabona, and Memo Dale, was- railed-to • Opaki yesterday; From Trentham .J. Lowe loaves this morning with, the two-year-old Matilda and Mascot, and H. Telford will take Elation and Struggle. The Christchurch trotting trainer, M. Edwa-rds, passed through here yesterday on th'e 7way'to. Auckland.- He had with him the trotters Wallace Wood,.Palmdale, atid Reggie Huon. ; At Opaki to-morrow, A. Reed will ride Matilda, Elation, and Montana in their engagements. ■. The Dnnedin Meeting will take place on Friday and Saturday of this week. In the Dnnedin Stakes, four furlongs, for two-year-olds, the local filly, Trenr tham Rose, will bo the only competitor that has had a race. 'This will be a big advantage to Mr. H. Whitney's enter, and it is quite possible that she will make amends for her failure at Kurow. At Wingatui on .Friday tho well-known horsemen, W. Bell and C. Emerson, will be! seen .in the 6addle.; The former will ride Compulsion, John Barleycorn, Disdaififul: Trentham Rose, and Rumania, while Emerson will get up on WinMo, Kilberry; lilboyiie, and Maro Antony. Midtiply, wt'o is doming on with tho racing : ho is getting,' is expected to go well" in the Spring Handicap at Opaki to-morrow.-.He was railed to Masterton on, Monday, last; and will be ridden in his engagement to-morrow by R. Reed. The latter is. a great _ innings just now, .and has ridden a winner at each'mooting he has attended this scar eon. '
Kiilena, who will carry Mr. J. B. Reid's colours : in the C.J.C. Oaks, will do a public trial for tho race in the Mosgiel Handicap at Dnnedin on Friday, gho has only the feather-weight of 6st. 111b., - so, providing a rider can be got to do her justice, tho Kilbroney filly should givo a good of herself. . After the success .of Kilboy in tho A.J.C. Dor"by backers aro jiot. likely to doubt tho stayinp ability, of the filly. '■ Though, ho has been scratched for the Grantham Stakes, to be mn at Randtrick' to^ay,' it is quito likely that the Derby winner, Kilboy, will bo allowed; to take his ' place in the rich Randwiok Plate,-two miles. The colt is likely to strip ■ a muchrimproyed horso ; for his Derby -race, and as he will "have a big null' in tho weights he may bo equal to holding, his .own. with Cetigne and Carlita, who rooresent tho best form amongst tho elder.division. ,
Red Ribbon, if started in tlie Ladies' Pureo at Opaki, may see a very short price, as sho is well handicapped,' ana her' public performances are much superior, to anything else engaged in the race.. In 'the autumn at Trentham she Tan third in. tho open sprint to Sweet Com, an Australasian Tecord-holder, and Chortle, an Awapuni Gold Cup winner. Although., run in war time, the A.J.C. Derby this, year netted .£4597, which is more. than over won _ before. Tho previous best were Cetigne JHHS9, Cider .E4141, and Mountain Knight £441 G. These amounts woro what, the winner received.
A Sydney writer says: "Mr. W. G. Stead has handed his horses, Cheloma, Sasanof, Sweet Corn, Gold Painting, and Shrill over- to M-. Hobbs to train. They are, therefore, now.in tbo samo stable na Kilboy.- Sr. Hobbs'e stablo has tho distinction of sheltering the favourites for the Caulfiold. and Molbourno Cups, as well:as Victoria Derby, a position which is probably unique in tho history of tho turf." The, same writer says: "The fear turo of. yesterday's betting was tho backing'of the tito Cupß double of Sasanof and Kilboy. It is estimated that 'the stable' scoured .(MA.OOO. Kilboy wns backod right out for Melbourno Cup." Tho Auckland trots havo been postponed' from Saturday next to the following Wednesday on account of tho parado of' tho Eighteenth Reinforcements i>. Auckland on Saturday.— Press Association. •
