Further progress by. the British oast of Le Sirs is reported from the Somme to-day.! There is a lull on the French front. Oil the Russian front Brnsiloff is delivering fresht Ulows at various points on the enemy's line, and his offensivo gives timely relief to the Rumanians, who have been gallantly withstanding the suddenly-lii-creased weight of the Bulgar-German offensive. The Rumanian army, it is stated, is in excellent condition. On the Struma front the Allies—Frencli, British, Serbians, and Russians—are making splendid headway against the Bulgars. The enemy is retreating, pursued by the Allies, wliose mounted squadrons hare proved themselves in rapid operations. The latest submarine sensation, off Nantucket Shoals, U.S.A:, lias caused a considerable 'stir in AmericaThe United States Government has announcod a policy of watchful waiting, but some of the New York dailies are less inclined to mince matters. Nine ships appear to have been sunk so far.
