9 : — Tha casualty lists which were issued by tho Defence authorities on Saturday and Sunday, and which; we regret to say, are again heavy, appear on pages 4 and sof to-day's issue. The deepest sympa thy of tho public, coupled with the warmest admiration for the noblo sacrifice involved, will, wo feel sure, go out to the families in their heroio bereavement. The Moeraki, dueat nooa on Tuesday from Sydney, is bringing an Ifinglish and Australian mail. The Wellington Military Service, Board will hold a preliminary! meeting to-morrow. The annual conference of tho New Zealand Chambers of Commerce will be held in Wellington on November 4 and 5. ' In addition to tho remits by the Wellington Chamber (published in Saturday's Dominion) it will move the fol-lowing-.—"That the unsatisfactory state of the Bankruptcy Law in New Zealand be again pointed out to the Government, and that it be urged to amend the Bankruptcy Act by giving effect to the recommendations of the conference of New Zealand Chambers of Commerce held in 1909." . .

Two sales of valuable properties in Cuba Street have taken place recently. A section 23ft. by 159 ft., with shop promises belonging to Mr. S. Edilson, has been sold to Mr. T. P. flalpin for £5250, and a section 40ft. by_ 64ft. Bin., in the Dixon Estate, containing two shops, situated about the centre of that bnsy thoroughfare, has been purchased by Mr. Thomas Inglis, of Wellington, the price paid being at tho rate of £200 a foot. Taking into consideration the depth of the latter section, the price paid is believed to be a record, as far as Cuba Street property is concerned—a very healthy sign for Wellington in the present unsettled state of things national.
Mr. Olutlia N. Mackenzie, son of tho High Commissioner for New Zealand, who was blinded in action, is now editing a newspaper called "The Chronicles of the N.Z.H.F." (New Zealand Expeditionary Force), to be issued fortnightly in London, by the War Contingent Association. _ A oircular lotter on the subjcct, received by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), states: —"Its primary purpose is to keep tho people back in New Zealand in clqscr touch with all that is going on in connection with the Now Zealand troops over hero; their progress while in the hospital, admissions, and discharges, social and porsonal items, and generally, as far as possible, a report of all that is happening concerning hospitals, olubs, canteens, hostels, and the like. The various works of the association will be reported upon, and Now' Zealanders will sen in what directions contributions are being expended. Literary articJes from the troops will complete the pages, and altogether, though not making any claim to pretensions, it should be a very jolly paper. It is to bo sold as nearly as possible at cost price, though should any.return bo maao, It is suggested that it should go to a fund i'or tho bonelit of returned soldiers. Tho price will be Gil., a copy. We would bp. glad if subscriptions and addresses could ho collected and forwarded through you to Mr. Leonard Tripp, care of War Relief Association, , Wellington,"
