METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY
— TARANAKI STREET'S 7oth YEAR.
A notable Sunday School anniversary was celebrated yesterday, when, the Taranaki Street Methodist School celebrated its seventy-fifth anniversary in the usual bright, cheerful manner that has earned this'school a uniquo place in institutions of the kind. Tho fact that tho Methodists established a Sunday School in "Wellington as far back as 1841 speaks well for the character of our early pioneers. It could be truly said that they built upon a ,rock, and the spiritual structure they erected has been a factor in shaping the character of many good: Wellington citizens of past and present times. Tho anniversary services of the school aro notable for. their singing, and on this: occasion the two hundred children attending the school worthily upheld those traditions of the past, of which they are so proud. . The children were, trained on this occasion by MK Blundell, strong,' valuable assistance being lent by Mr. Temple Whito at the organ. Thero were threo services yesterday, and each one was prefaced by tho singing of the National Anthem. At the morning service the Rev. A. M. Reader, of Thorndon, delivered, a. bright address to the children; in tho afternoon the Rev. Angus M'Baih, of Petone, told a story_ based on the virtue of, doing one thing at a timo and doing it well, and'in tho evening the Rev. J. G. Chapman told an interesting narrative . illustrative of-, tho truism that the way to bo happy was to make others happy.
The annual tea and meeting are to be held on Wednesday evening. KENT TERRACE PRESBYTERIAN SUNDAY SCHOOL. The Sunday School anniversary in connection with tho Kent Terraco Presbyterian Church was mado • particularly interesting by the appearance in tho pulpit of Professor Dickie, professor of theology' at tho Otago University, who presided at all three services. Special music was sung bv the childron, under-the direction of Mr. W/v H. Godior, a factor that ,eon-' tributcci greatly to the enjoyment of all. threo services. .. At the annual meeting _ to-morrow evening Pi'ofcssor Dickio is to spealc on "Germany and the ■ War," an address which should bo vor.v, interesting,
as tho visitor lias been a keen student of Germany's trend of thought, more particularly as regards theological matters, and has translated several works on tho subjcct into English.
